【摘要】:ThejudiciousselectionofapackagingmaterialispartofGoodManufacturingPractices(GMPs)fortheirradiationofprepackagedfoods.Thisguiderecognizestheneedtoevaluatetheimpactofpackagingmaterialsonthesafetyandqualityoffoodsirradiatedtocontroltheproliferationoffoodbornepathogens,aswellastheirimpactonfoodsirradiatedforotherpurposes,suchaspreventionofre-infestation,delayofripening,orshelflifeextension.Aspartoftheevaluation,thepackagingselectionprocessshouldconsidertheeffectsofirradiationonthechemicalandphysicalpropertiesofthepackagingmaterial.PackagingisnotconsideredtobeafoodpreservationtechniqueforovercominganydeficienciesattributabletoinadequateGMPsduringpreparation,storage,ortreatmentoffoodstobeirradiated.Thequalityoftheirradiatedfoodwilldependheavilyonitsinitialquality,controloftheirradiationprocess,storagetemperatureandhandlingofthefoodafterirradiation.1.1Thisguideoutlinesparametersthatshouldbeconsideredwhenselectingfood-contactpackagingmaterialsintendedforuseduringtheirradiationofprepackagedfoods.1.2Thisguidehighlightstheroleofpackaginginconjunctionwithirradiationincontrollingmicrobialandchemicalspoilageprocesses.1.3Thisguidedoesnotaddressallregulatoryissuesassociatedwithpackagingmaterialsforfoodstobeirradiated.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisguidetodeterminethepertinentregulatoryissuesineachcountrywhereirradiatedfoodsaretobeproducedordistributed.1.4Thisguidedoesnotaddressallofthefoodsafetyissuesassociatedwiththesynergisticeffectsofirradiationandpackagingasfoodpreservationtechniquesontheextensionofshelflife.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisguidetoconductappropriateriskanalysestodeterminethecriticalfoodsafetyissues.1.5Thisguidedoesnotaddressalltheeffectsofirradiationandpackagingonfoodqualityandshelflife.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisguidetoconductappropriateproductassessmentteststodeterminethecompatibilitybetweenthepackagingapplicationandirradiationrelativetochangesinsensoryattributesandshelflife.1.6Thisguidedoesnotaddresstheuseofirradiationasaprocessingaidforthemanufactureorsterilizationoffoodpackagingmaterials.1.7Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
